NIC VANSTEENBERGH
Two visual studies for Nic Vansteenbergh, also known as Nic Vans: a liquid-covered bust in a surreal garden and a discoball artwork set inside an illustrated psychedelic landscape.
The concept
The two pieces approach the artist’s presence through different worlds. The bust gives Nic a sculptural form, surrounded by foliage, classical architecture and vivid pink-purple liquid. The discoball takes a graphic route, placing the NIC VANS name at the center of an environment of palms, rolling shapes and saturated color.
Developing the contrast
In the bust piece, the contrast between solid sculpture and flowing liquid becomes the central idea. Material, lighting and the surrounding scene make the portrait feel both familiar and strange. The discoball artwork shifts toward illustration and pattern: the mirrored sphere anchors the image while the landscape opens outward around it. Together, the studies show two ways to turn an artist’s identity into a visual environment—one sculptural and tactile, the other graphic and expansive.
